France: Land of Bread and Cheese

Well, I just got back from a unique cultural experience in France. We traveled in a bus from our little town of Leysin to La Rochette, a small town which is about a four hour bus drive. Our group stopped in Geneva to see ancient jewelry. It was interesting to know how gold and silver were used in the 15th century. By 5 pm, we were in La Rochette. We stayed with "host families". It was fun because we got to experience French family life. And, we were expected to speak French!! It was cool because I got to go to a drum lesson! Our little tour took us to some unique cafes and cultural sites. Grenoble was the highlight. We got free time. Free time usually means shopping! We got to see the city and it was a very beautiful city. Albertville, the city were the 1992 winter Olympics were held, was not very interesting. We just saw one stadium. We went to a travel fair. We saw a uninteresting movie about some guy who crossed the Sarah in 6 weeks. There was a fair nearby but it was closed so we headed back for some free time. The medevil town was the best. It was well preserved. Our trip ended with a stop to Anncey. The lake was beautiful and there were little shops set up. Overall, the trip was great and I learened a lot of French and French Culture!!
